Shop owners at the ikotun marker have expressed their bitterness on the demolition of their shops by the Lagos State Government.
News Agency of Nigeria reports that over 60 parts of the market were demolished in order to reconstruct the roundabout and expand the road from easy vehicular movement.
A trader who sells condiments by name Mrs Folashade Aje said that a jituve was given late 2019 but they all assumed the demolition would come much later in the year.
Chibuzor James, a second hand appliances dealer said he knew the demolition was going to happen.
The Chairman Igando-Ikotun Local Government Council Development Area, Mrs. Morenike Williams said measures would be taken to compensate shop owners. She further more urged all affected property owners to take any proof of ownership to the office of the Commisioner, Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.
Mrs.Williams added that affected owners without any proof of ownership should take photographs of their proper and bring it to her office for verification.
She said the motive behind the initiative was to ease the traffic situation around the market.
She implored the traders to cooperate with the contractors .
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako said the project will be completed within four months from the date of commencement.
